Teacher Power: Pedagogical Growth of the English Group
The English Group of Beimen Elementary school is well known for its continual enthusiasm for Pedagogical growth.
Members of the Group include the principal, the dean, four local English teachers and two foreign teachers who are native speakers. Monthly meetings are held to improve and ensure the quality of teaching and learning. Teachers take turns sharing teaching material and ideas; cases of students needing extra help are also discussed. Principal Ma and the dean give full administrative support to the English group, which guarantees the success of the school’s English education program. The caliber of teaching is further improved through bi-monthly class observation in which Academic staff and co-teachers observe and comment on the co-teaching.

At Ximen Elementary, we strongly emphasize collaboration between foreign and local teachers. Every Tuesday afternoon for the last five years, a few members of the staff and the teachers of Chu-Lian have attended an English conversation class with the purpose of improving their English speaking skills. Instructed by the foreign teachers, the weekly get-together provides an excellent opportunity for the staff and the teachers not only to practice English conversation but also to share experiences and build up a good rapport with each other.

This is the picture of all the English teachers at the school. We’re all wearing black T-shirts designed by Denise, one of our foreign English teachers. Wearing a T-shirt of our own creates a sense of community within our department. We have already bonded as a team and the T-shirt signifies our strong bond of teamwork and cooperation.
On the front of the T-shirt, it says “We love (heart) English”. We hope to remind our students visually of the fun in learning English.
On the back is a quote from Dr. Seuss:
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
We, as teachers, will also bear in mind this philosophy and hope this spirit will be passed on to our students.

The teachers at Guan Dong Elementary often show their interest in the importance of English, having translations in the classrooms, and motivating students to do homework and review their work. Teachers in the English Department discuss the lessons and share ideas about teaching the different lessons and how to make the content more relevant for the students. As teamwork is an important part in the approach to English classes at the school, it helps to understand the different teaching styles and the key is to be supportive.

Teacher Armien( left 2) , having taught in NLPS for six years, is good at teaching English by utilizing internet resources, such as funny interactive computer games or related film or MTV clips, to facilitate teaching and boost students’ learning motivation..
Teacher Corn? ( left 1) entertains the students with his amusing body languages and designs lots of well organized games which successfully target the specific teaching goals.
Teacher Sophia ( middle) ,having been trained as a TEFL teacher both domestically and abroad, will always find alternative and daily materials to help students learned English with ease.
Teacher Regina (right 2) is an experienced English teacher. Besides English teaching, she is also a music teacher, good at playing violin. In her class, she usually teaches students English with rap songs and dancing .
Teacher Sherry ( right 1) is not only an English teacher, being good at teaching skills and classroom order in the elementary school, but she is also fond of extracurricular English activities, such as being a member of Toastmaster International.In her opinion, “practice makes perfect” is key point to learning English well.

The teachers at Hsiang Shan Elementary are dedicated to providing high quality learning experiences for all our students. As a result, we have English meetings as a department, where everyone comes together to discuss school-wide English activities, classroom practices, student and teacher expectations and lesson planning. Furthermore, teaching partners have appointment times to meet one-on-one to develop their grade specific lesson plans, discuss students’ or classes’ progress and create written and oral assessments.
